Our Story
For nearly 80 years, Heights Pool has been a cherished part of the Alamo Heights community — a sunny oasis where laughter echoes, friendships grow, and summer memories are made.
Originally operated by the City of Alamo Heights, the pool faced an uncertain future 34 years ago when it was set to be filled in and the buildings demolished. But thanks to the vision and dedication of Rick Shaw, who saw potential where others saw an ending, Heights Pool was saved and transformed into the vibrant haven it is today.
For more than three decades, Rick was lovingly known as “The Pool Guy.” Today, his legacy lives on through his daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Clayton Smaistrla, who continue to care for and lead Heights Pool with the same passion and community spirit.
Generations of families have passed through our gates — earning ribbons as Pool Sharks, diving for coins on the Fourth of July, perfecting their cannonballs, and enjoying ice cream under the Texas sun. These traditions have woven throughout the fabric of what makes Heights Pool so special.
Beneath the canopy of our leafy trees, Heights Pool remains a place to relax, reconnect, and revel in the simple joys of summer. It’s not just a pool — it’s a shared story, a neighborhood gathering place, and a cornerstone of community life.
We’re honored to preserve this legacy and to welcome new generations into our little slice of paradise. Every season brings fresh adventures, lasting friendships, and timeless stories — all waiting to be written.
